Sustainable Practices at Kerry Lodge B&B and Garden Cottage
Waste Management;
  • Room amenities are refilled from bulk environmentally friendly supplies
  • Dedicated brochures are not printed
  • Retailed items are purchased with recycling and environmental sustainability in mind and we would like to encourage our guests to do the same.
  • All organic food waste is used for the Worm farm or compost. Wood ash is used on the garden.
  • We are supplied with locally grown produce, grow some ourselves and grow our own seeds.
  • We also preserve our own fruit and make our jams and conserves.
  • Our fruit trees are not sprayed, and we use natural or plant based insecticides on other plants

Pollution Prevention

  • We limit the use of our motor vehicles to essential use – I use my bike where possible.
  • We use ecostore cleaning products.

Energy Efficiency

  • Energy efficient light bulbs are now utilised throughout our Lodge after having a lighting audit
  • In Summer our windows and doors are kept open to allow for natural ventilation and light
  • Bedding is dried in the fresh air and the bedding is aired regularly.
  • The drier is used only when absolutely necessary and we encourage our guests to line dry their washing.
  • Guest towels are washed every 2 days (unless guest requires washing more regularly) and they are aired dried each day.

Water Efficiency

  • We have undertaken a water flow test and find we are within the efficient guidelines
  • We are looking at ways to re-use the grey water for the garden to save watering the garden
